Brief Bio

Ferdinando Salata is Associate Professor of Building Physics and Applied Thermodynamics at the Department of Electrical and Energy Engineering (DIEE) at Sapienza University of Rome. He earned a PhD in Engineering Physics and has dedicated his academic career to research and teaching in energy performance, building physics, indoor environmental quality, and urban microclimates. His methodology combines experimental field monitoring with advanced dynamic simulations to optimize energy efficiency, visual comfort, and occupant well-being in the built environment. His research on natural lighting and visual comfort focuses on dynamic daylight simulation, glare control strategies, and the seamless integration of natural light with intelligent electrical lighting systems. This work extends to comprehensive assessments of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in schools, offices, and residential sectors, as well as dynamic energy modeling, passive design strategies, building envelope optimization, and urban heat island (UHI) mitigation for outdoor thermal comfort. Dr. Salata is the author and co-author of numerous research articles published in high-level international journals specializing in energy, building physics, and environmental quality. He actively contributes to the scientific community through editorial roles and peer review activities for important publications in the fields of energy performance and lighting technologies. He is also a principal investigator in national and international projects focused on energy transition, sustainable building practices, and environmental engineering.
