Dr Francesco Sommese is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in technical architecture at the Department of Civil, Buildings and Environmental Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II, Italy. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with a thesis on biomimetic strategies for climate-adaptive building envelopes using smart materials. He designed a light-responsive kinetic biomimetic façade by performing a parametric simulation of daylight performance. His research activity also concerns nature-based solutions and bioclimatic architecture. Dr Sommese has the ability to work in a team to develop multidisciplinary research in the field of architecture and construction. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering for Cultural Heritage. Sommese is the author of several articles published in international journals and is a reviewer for several Elsevier, Springer and MDPI journals. He has received several awards for his research activities and is co-supervisor of many degree theses.
